Casa Limon, every room is fresh and lively
The search for a fresh and Mediterranean vibe led to the decisions that defined this project.
Producing a project for our own home is one of the hardest challenges, but also one of the most enriching experiences in construction. Marcos Duque decided to take on a challenge such as this, as he chose to take care of the finishes for his new home in Madrid, even down to its name: meet Casa Limon.
Casa Limon, an open concept in each room
And who better to tell us about such a personal space than the developer of the idea. In Marcos’ words:
«The project began the moment we decided to buy an old house, of the few remaining in Madrid, original from the 1950s. The house had two storeys and a lot of little rooms, living room, kitchen, patio, bathroom, workshop and upstairs were three bedrooms.»
«We decided to hire a team of architects to help us with the new reform and structure of the house, and we would continue choosing all of the materials.»
«The end distribution left all of the rooms joined in a single space. The main goal was to find the “Patio-House” concept, in other words, any room in the house would be connected to the patio.»
The room that is most used during the good weather months is the patio-living room, when we open the glass doors and everything is connected. This is where we installed the same todobarro flooring throughout, to unify the rooms and to visually transform everything into a single room.»
As Marcos said, the project uses our Cuadrado 15 reddish clay tile on the floor of a small living room and in the adjoining garden. The 15 cm square tile is what we call a classic among classics. This is by far the most versatile size of the whole range.
Although in this case a reddish hue was used, you can compose chequerboards, stripes, frames or zigzags, in different shades and colours. It works both for small areas and for centrepieces in rooms, and it is available in 2.1 cm thick for floors, and 1.1 cm for walls.
In search of a Mediterranean vibe, traditional and current materials are fused
Marcos tells us: «We wanted to give the house a fresh, Mediterranean and rustic ambience, where we could come home and feel comfortable, combining traditional with the newest materials.»
Playing with natural colours and textures, each room connects to the adjoining room, allowing us to live the house and to enjoy that connection that makes you feel that at any moment you could be in any area of the house.»
What about the name Casa Limon? He explained: “Due to the main colour in each room, and that freshness and aliveness that it provides.” It could not have been better suited.
A project that is so curated, it has its own Instagram account
