A home renovated with terracotta in Dalt Vila, Ibiza
The Iventa group uses a wide variety of our glazed and terracotta tiles for the renovation of a home in Ibiza
This project is located in Dalt Vila, the upper district in the center of the town of Ibiza, in the Balearic Islands. The German firm Iventa has completely renovated a house in the old town of the Pitiusan capital, where, in their own words, the past and present converse through design and materials. As the bridge between those two worlds, they have used our terracotta tiles in a wide variety of formats and combinations.
From the blue tones used for the bathroom to the warmth of traditional fired clay tiles for the floor, this projects solves the cladding of its walls and floors with the diversity of our artisanal ceramic tiles.
Wood for the ceilings, clay for the floors
Traditional Ibizan architecture shares genetic material with the historical constructions of Babylon and Phoenicia, the area of the world that is now the Levant, and its origins can be traced back to the Neolithic period, the last period of the Stone Age. This antiquity explains some of the characteristics of traditional Ibizan houses, called “payesas“, a word that means “people of the countryside”. Payesas houses are structured in square modules with thick walls and whitewashed surfaces, functional both for withstanding storms and for protecting against the scorching sun. These houses are typically arranged around a communal space that all the other areas emmanate from.
Vernacular architecture has developed specific solutions to adapt to the area’s topography and climate, ultimately shaping the island’s unique identity. In addition to the whitewashing’s characteristic white color, the use of local natural materials such as stone, wood, and clay predominates.
To respect this combination of materials and the effect created by their interplay—the warmth of the wood and terracotta combined with the luminosity of the whitewash—the renovation of this house was carried out in collaboration with artisan firms like ours.
The color palette pays homage to the city’s history, acknowledging the Arab influence and the Balearic maritime culture.
Terracotta floors, walls, kitchen, and bathroom
The Iventa group has demonstrated the variety of our catalog. For the floors, they used the Damero Mixto 30 and Rectángulo 20×10 formats, with an Antique finish and, in the Ambar set. This choice brings warmth to the space, creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere. The texture of our tiles, which are treated through a controlled aging process, is smooth and pleasant to the touch, making them an ideal choice for a home’s interior.
For the bathroom, they used two of our glazed tiles: the Brisa color, in the Rectángulo 20×10 format, and the Arrecife color in the Rombo iso 10 format. The natural variations in tone of our glazed colors give these walls a chromatic richness that mimics the diversity of nature (hence their names), making the spaces interesting and varied, without sacrificing visual coherence and respecting the aesthetic identity of each project.
Finally, the kitchen walls are bordered at the height of the countertop by a frieze configured with our Vélez-Bovedilla flooring, one of the designs from our signature collections, signed by Damián López from the LEBLUME studio.
