Glazed clay tiles for a family bathroom
Two of our combined formats reinforce the space divide and bring character to this family bathroom
Turning the bathroom into a space one can enjoy and relax, live with each other and make it part of the whole concept of home: that is what was achieved with this renovation project we were part of in Annoeullin, France.
Language itself takes us to the essence of this renovation; this room was turned from a mere bathroom into a salle de bains. A salle de bains is not just a location for mere hygiene: it is a daily space where we fill our energy cups before getting out of the house, or where to wind down in a hot tub after a long day.
The project, led by the French studio Andrée Bracq, turned a 6,6 square meter room into a proper family bathroom. As they themselves say in their website, the starting point was to closely examine the architecture of the place to integrate a bathtub and optimize natural light. “We wanted a soft and immersive vibe, and we opted for and integral polished concrete coating in a slightly pinkish beige tone”, the studio explains about one of the choices made for the project.
A bathtub covered with glazed tiles
Another decision was to cover the bathroom area with several of todobarro’s glazed tiles. Specifically, the Andrée Bracq studio used our Lúzula designs, in a 25×6 half-brick format, and Calima, in a 25×6 half-brick format, two designs inspired by nature and the warmth of the colors found in it.
In the case of Lúzula, they simulate the characteristic bright finish color of this type of plant from the reed family. Calima, on the other hand, is inspired by a common climatic phenomenon on the Andalusian coast, wherein the south wind blows dust across the sea, thus generating a characteristic shade of beige in the sky. Both tiles combined play with lines, adding graphic character to great texture effects. The result allows us to see, once again, how playing with different concepts, colors, and finishes can convey different emotions.
Among the projects at todobarro, you can see more examples that are pure inspiration. References that make us understand that with creativity and good raw materials, it is possible to turn any space in a home into a cozy corner where we want to be. All this through design and using natural materials such as fired clay, which works in any room depending on how it is applied.
