La Portegna in Madrid: a customized terracotta floor for an artisan brand
It’s not the first time we’ve worked with La Portegna, an Andalusian brand with a traveler’s spirit that makes high-end artisan leather products. We recently talked about the stunning white herringbone floor we made for their store in Mallorca. This time, we want to recall the custom clay floor we made for the brand’s location in Madrid.
It is a unique work: a custom clay floor, which we designed and made to measure following the vision of the Maceda studio, who also signed the reform of the Mallorcan store.
Different tones and geometric play: a weaving artwork
The custom flooring we made for this project is special for many reasons. It is a composition that uses a format identical to that of the Mallorcan store (Prisma 55×20 in Antique White), but with smaller dimensions and using different colors. In that case, a monochromatic herringbone layout was followed. That floor evokes the natural elements and Balearic architectural traditions.
However, this floor, while playing with the same geometric shape, sends a totally different message. In the center of the composition, a rosette acts as the center of the radial. It is a specially made circular piece, on which the legend “La Portegna, crafted in Spain” can be read around the brand logo.
The Prisma pieces are arranged, as we have said, radially around this seal, in different shades of the Amber set. This is one of the sets that brings together several of our shades, in a specific proportion that balances the chromatic range.
The combination of colors (including reddish, salmon and flamed straw), achieves a lattice effect that inevitably recalls the work displayed on the counters and shelves of the store.
Reinforcing brand identity through a terracotta floor
The Maceda studio’s choice of this custom-made terracotta floor effectively reinforces La Portegna’s brand image, as upon entering the store, the perceived value of the premises is immediately conveyed.
A handcrafted terracotta floor conveys warmth, authenticity and wisdom. The items found in this store (and in this brand) are small, delicate. You have to get close to perceive the details, as is the case with high quality craftsmanship. It is a very accurate touch to anticipate all that the good work of La Portegna transmits when someone enters the small store and the first thing that attracts the eye is the terracotta floor, with the custom-made rosette in the center.
