Olivos Café Lounge: the luxury of Mediterranean style
The Café Lounge de Olivos, located in Palo Alto Marbella, uses one of our signature designer terracotta floors to convey the richness of the local culture
Gema Guzmán Espejo is the architect and designer behind Guze Studio, the firm that has used our products to remodel the common areas of Olivos, an apartment complex in Palo Alto, the luxury residential development in Marbella, Málaga.
This exclusive residential and vacation area aims to offer residents the best of the Mediterranean world, without compromising on the highest quality standards. And it is at this intersection that the Guze studio has used our terracotta latticework and flooring.
In the Café Lounge, one of Olivos’ common areas, Gema Guzmán has used the Vélez Alberca floor, designed by Damián López of the LEBLUME studio, featuring a custom mold, tailor-made by todobarro specially for this project.
Defining the space with designer terracotta tiles
Gema Guzmán’s project employs an ingenious solution to divide the café space, which involves defining the table area with a “rug” made from our Vélez Alberca flooring.
This clearly defines the function of each part of the space, emphasizing the division of roles and providing users with a distinct area for each activity, without resorting to more drastic divisions, such as partitions, which would interrupt visual continuity and the flow of light.
For this project, we created a custom mold of the Vélez Alberca design, using a combination of modified Cuadrado 20 and Círculo 20 tiles. This design belongs to one of our signature collections—a collaboration between the savoir-faire of our master artisans and young Andalusian designers who bring their worldview to the world of fired clay. The Vélez collection, designed as mentioned above by the LEBLUME studio, draws inspiration from the geometric forms of Malaga’s vernacular architecture.
A cutting-edge design that evokes luxury in the Mediterranean style
“Mediterranean luxury” may seem like an oxymoron, given the humble, artisanal nature of Mediterranean cultures. And yet, all it takes is a discerning eye to appreciate the qualities of the material traditions of our surroundings and transform that cultural heritage into high-end features.
Through this project, the Guze studio sought to convey the discreet abundance of the Mediterranean. Thanks to the use of fine materials, such as handcrafted ceramics, earthy colors, and natural light, the concept of classic luxury is reinterpreted through sophisticated design and the sublimation of forms.
