Renovation of a traditional Catalan masía in Mont-Ras
Nature serves as inspiration for the interior design of this space, which uses natural clay tiles in the bathroom area
This project combines two of our passions: nature and design. Both concepts are closely linked; in fact, they lose all meaning without each other. In this case, we find ourselves in a masía; a traditional kind of Catalonian farmhouse, in Mont-Ras, that coexists in harmony with the landscape. The renovation of this space had to be integrated into its context. Its design is an invitation to be in equilibrium with its own nature.
For this project, we worked closely with Espanyolet, an interior design studio that specializes, in their own words, “in creating spaces that move people.” In the case of this farmhouse, the starting point was one of respect for the space’s character, to then create a welcoming environment where time seems to slow down. Every detail has been carefully considered: materials, furniture, textiles, and accessories all contribute to the warmth and personality of the space.
As indicated by the design studio in charge of the project, the bathroom is a space in which a large number of materials must be chosen, and all of them must fit in with the overall concept of the house. It is a puzzle in which our natural clay tiles have played a special role.
Specifically, our 20×10 Rectángulo tiles in the flamed straw color were used on the bathroom wall, a shade that comes from a natural (and random) decoloration in the clay tiles. This choice is undoubtedly a success, as the result is an environment in which the worn textures give it a vintage look that fits perfectly with the rest of the rooms.
Harmony between rustic and contemporary
The surrounding natural landscapes are the inspiration for the interior design of this house, where earth tones and soft pastels take center stage. Exposed wooden beams, stone walls, and antique furniture are key to preserving the personality of this house, which also incorporates all the comforts of modern life. The microcement and wood floors provide unity, resulting in a harmonious blend of rustic authenticity and contemporary style.
This project in Mont-Ras is a tribute to the Catalan landscape and a work that respects its heritage, making the most of a space that already had a lot to offer. We invite you to learn more about it in this article dedicated to it by Espanyolet on their blog.
Among our projects, you can see other examples of natural clay walls in bathrooms. You can also see other projects in which todobarro tiles have played a fundamental role in creating harmony and natural balance.
