Interior designer Yvonne Huynh uses todobarro x zara home glazed tiles for a kitchen’s island and a bathroom in a Parisian apartment
The burgundy-glazed tiles by todobarro x Zara Home cover a renovated kitchen with an island and a bathroom in Puteaux
Interior architect Yvonne Huynh has used pieces from the todobarro x Zara Home collection for a renovated apartment in the northwest of the French capital. The project consisted on a partial renovation of an 80-square-meter home, in which the kitchen and bathroom were to be completely redesigned aesthetically, but without making major structural changes.
For the kitchen and bathroom, the architect used the square glazed tiles that todobarro developed exclusively for Zara Home, which were available for purchase since June of last year.
These tiles, available in a single square format measuring 9.7 cm on each side, come in two colors: off-white and a dark brown rich in burgundy undertones, with a glazed finish that, according to Huynh, is reminiscent of the zellige finish in France. The studio chose the dark version of the tiles for the kitchen island, making it the central defining element of the home, and the light-colored tiles for the bathroom, which also features burgundy accents.
Glazed tiles for a kitchen and bathroom: the benefits of terracotta
Many people wonder if our products are suitable for intensive-use areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, which are also subject to high levels of humidity and are often exposed to stains from organic matter and cleaning chemicals.
Terracotta is a living material that is influenced by its surroundings. Our glazed tiles are not specifically designed for food contact, but as long as you use the appropriate cookware and follow basic safety and hygiene precautions, they are perfectly safe to use. On our Projects page, you can find a wide range of examples showing how other customers have used our terracotta tiles in their kitchens.
The truth is that terracotta tiles are an ideal material for spaces such as kitchens and bathrooms, as long as the tiles are properly treated and sealed for their intended use. Here you can read a comprehensive guide to the installation, cleaning, and maintenance of terracotta floors, but our team is here to advise all our clients on how to meet the specific needs of their projects.
Our terracotta pieces not only offer a unique aesthetic but also help regulate humidity and temperature. But perhaps their greatest contribution to spaces like a kitchen or bathroom is their texture: after decades of dedication to the craft of pottery, we’ve developed a controlled aging process that ensures our pieces leave the workshop with a smooth, silky texture—similar to that found in antique floor tiles that have been naturally polished over the centuries.
todobarro x Zara Home: exclusive handcrafted tiles within everyone’s reach
Last year, we announced that Zara Home, the Inditex Group’s home decor line, had begun selling our glazed tiles on its online store in sets of 50 pieces. This collaboration marks a first for both companies: todobarro represents Zara Home’s first foray into handmade ceramic products, and the sets for Zara Home are the first mass-produced items created by todobarro, a company known for working on a made-to-order basis.
The todobarro x Zara Home tiles cover half a square meter, and the ecru color is available in matte and glossy finishes.
