Herringbone flooring in La Portegna’s Mallorcan store
The renovation of the La Portegna store in Palma uses our herringbone flooring with the Prisma 55x20 format.
They say in their blog that the three pillars that guide the philosophy of La Portegna are beauty, unique pieces and craftsmanship. This exclusive brand of handcrafted leather handbags with Andalusian origin counted for their store in Mallorca with our Prisma 55×20 format for a herringbone flooring that captures the soul of the store, putting into practice exactly what they preach. In addition, Cuadrado 15 tiles in the same shade was used for the store’s displays.
The Mallorcan architect Pablo Álvarez de Lara, at the head of the Maceda studio, signed the renovation of this store in the center of the city of Palma. It is a store that reflects the Mediterranean spirit through its materials, celebrating the simplicity and charm of noble materials.
The Antique White color and the basic format: an infallible combination
In todobarro we have, broadly speaking, two formats for floors and walls: the basic ones, in which all the pieces have the same shape, and the combined ones, in which different geometric shapes coexist.
When we say “basic formats”, we may make the mistake of thinking of boring, rudimentary patterns. Nothing could be further from the actual result: just take a look at our catalog to see the depth and geometric complexity that can be achieved with the same piece. Even with square, rectangular and rhomboid shapes, you can achieve an effect that can be perfectly discreet without ever becoming boring.
One of the ways to play with these basic formats is through shades. Very different effects can be achieved, and spaces can be characterized in very different ways through colors. You can combine several different shades, or go for the monochromatic (which is not strictly speaking a monochromatic, because with artisanal firing processes, natural shades are produced that bring heterogeneity to the composition).
We have already participated before in projects that have bet everything on antique white, and we have to say that we think it is an absolute success. We are thinking in particular of a project we did in Menorca, which you can read about here.
A store that captures Mediterranean beauty
In the case of La Portegna, a very elegant and suggestive format has been chosen: the Prisma 55×20, which forms a herringbone floor. As can be seen in the photos, it is a discreet but very original format, which gives the space a great personality.
Despite being an Andalusian product, La Portegna is a brand that celebrates travel, adventure and movement. Therefore, its store in Mallorca praises the landscape in which it is located, and that is why we find vernacular architecture: whitewashed walls, herringbone flooring, native nature decorating the walls and ceiling, etc. The choice of our Prisma piece in conjunction with the Antique white shade is perfect for conveying the Mediterranean spirit, so it is no coincidence that we have seen a similar format in other Balearic projects.
It is a pleasure to find our terracotta floors in the stores of La Portegna, which is characterized by good taste.
