With our gaze in the stars: Doña Luz
Mostaza Design apuesta por nuestras baldosas de barro para el suelo del restaurante Doña Luz ubicado en las nubes.
The views which can be enjoyed from Doña Luz Rooftop are second only to the exquisite fusion dishes served up from its kitchen. The studio Mostaza Design was tasked with injecting some identity into this urban rooftop located in the beating heart of Madrid, and they turned to our terracotta tiles for the project.
Colonial inspiration
As guests cross the threshold into Doña Luz, the bewildering hustle and bustle of Madrid’s Puerta del Sol is immediately left behind. Up on this rooftop restaurant, the street feels very far away as calming tranquility and feel-good vibes quickly descend over the space. Achieving an effect like this is no easy task, but the team of designers and interior decorators at Mostaza Design were able to pull it off mainly by drawing inspiration from the colonial patios of Cartagena de Indias, transposing the light, joy and color of this Colombian city straight back to Spain.
The essence of this can be found in every last decorative element. Organic materials such as wood, wicker and terracotta reinforce that all-encompassing feeling of authenticity which radiates throughout the atmosphere at Doña Luz. Elements of plant life and vegetation can be found in all corners, including the vertical garden which adds personality and freshness to the restaurant.
Terracotta rooftop floor for Doña Luz
We are always delighted when we see our tiles executed in perfect harmony with the other elements of a project, coming together to form a single and cohesive whole. For Doña Luz, the team selected two different formats for the outside area. Terracotta pavements are highly resistant to the passage of time and exposure to the elements. In fact, with the right treatment, the more time that passes, the better they will age. As the years wear on, terracotta tiles acquire an utterly unique texture and color.
The formats selected for the rooftop terrace were, on the one hand, our Triángulo 30 Equilateral, which is one of our most popular and widely requested tiles. On the other hand, the interior designers opted for our Hexágono 20, which gives rise to a timeless tessellation that is simply teeming with character. Both formats, very different from one another, are able to delimit the different parts of the space while still sharing the same tonalities: pizarra (slate), paja flameada (flamed straw) and rojiza (rust red). The result was an original and strikingly different floor in harmony with the spirit of the restaurant, in addition to being of natural origin and 100% sustainable.
