A home with a rural sensibility in the heart of Madrid
Even the biggest metropolises can enjoy sophisticated rural charm through the right choice of materials and professionals.
When we think rural style, it’s only naturally that our minds drift towards that classically bucolic image of a country house surrounded by nature in some remote corner of the country, far away from the urban pulse. But Estudio Ancora has smashed through this preconceived notion and transported country charm and all the sensations that come with it to the big city through their complete remodeling of a rustic Spanish style home in the heart of Madrid.
The rustic Spanish style in a home is an ode to natural materials
One of the key ingredients of this rural style is the use of organic materials with an artisanal finish. These are directly linked to the countryside, the natural world and to tradition. Wood, stone, natural fibers and, of course, fired-clay terracotta, are all key elements of this decorative vernacular.
It is also characterized by the use and reuse of recycled materials, as well as a decorative style which highlights tonalities of brown, green, orange, yellow and ochre. This kind of rustic setting is usually accompanied by an atmosphere of tranquility, which was perfectly suited for the sort of multi-functional space that the owner of this property was seeking.
The personality of fired clay
With this philosophy present from the very beginnings of the project, Estudio Ancora selected our tiles and glazed ceramic azulejos, which are crafted by hand and fired in a traditional Arabic oven, for three different and important spaces in the house: the floors, the kitchen and the bathroom.
In the kitchen, they installed a backdrop comprised of our Rombo tiles glazed in matte white, intensifying the contrast with the reddish and rustic flair of our Ladrillo Rústico with an Antique texture, which they deployed on the floor. Meanwhile, they chose one of our most popular compositions to clad the bathroom: our combined format Prometheus 10, made up of glazed pieces in the form of white rhombuses with ample color variation and squares in a matte version of our Zamarut green.
The color variations, irregularities and imperfections which our pieces display make them a unique element, brimming with personality and utterly authentic in its execution. These occur as a result of the artisanal production process and from being fired in an oven.
We use traditional techniques with centuries of history to produce modern and avant-garde designs. This characteristic of our product means that it can always adapt well to just about any kind of decorative style. Fired clay finds a natural home in this kind of rural style, but also within all kinds of minimalist settings. The possibilities to create and experiment with this material so deeply linked to the roots of our ancestors are practically infinite.
