Despite being a thousands of years old material, fired clay still has a lot to offer. Investing in it and developing new products with it has always been not only a priority of ours, but a huge motivation. Under this premise todobarro LAB is born: a new department with facilities of its own where we can experiment and dig deeper with the possibilities of Neocraftsmanship.

In the search of unique and personlized products

The main goal of this R&D terracotta lab is to innovate in the artisanal processes, adapting them to the sustainable and aesthetic production requirements of today’s world. The LAB is concieved therefore as a space destined to the development of completely personalized products and to the improvement of products. We can narrow it down to two clearly defined lines:

• To move forward with the own research of todobarro to improve the quality of our materials and develop new and innovative ideas that give place to new product lines.
• To offer the capacity of complete product customization for projects with specific requirements that stray away from our usual production line.

A multidisciplinary team

Getting the expertise and know-how that an initiative of this caliber requires is only possible by surrounding the project of great proffesionals. Which is why the LAB is made of a team that specializes in different areas: ceramics, product design and production processes.

What we do in the LAB

An industrial building with specialized ceramic machinery have been asigned to the LAB, to carry on the techniques that allow to develop custom-made solutions that aren’t doable in our central tile shop.

The main lines of work we develop in the lab are:

• Research, testing and development of future todobarro’s products
• Development of personalized products
• Research about glazing processes and color standardization
• Optimization of the production circuit in the tile shop and the glazing shop
