Gorafe
In the highlands of Granada, we find a small village called “Gorafe,” which inspired this shade of high-temperature fired clay. Gorafe is a village of just over three hundred inhabitants, surrounded by a landscape that looks like something out of a Wild West movie, but which has been an unknown gem of Andalusia’s natural heritage for thousands of years.
Known locally as “los Coloraos,” the surroundings of Gorafe are what are known as badlands: impressive geological formations typically found in areas where rainfall is torrential but very scarce. Thus, when rain falls on almost desert-like terrain, it does so in an extreme way, creating canyons and gorges in the rock and exposing the layers and compositions of the earth. This means that places like this display extremely distinctive color palettes, ranging from dark charcoal tones to the whites of chalk or limestone, passing through, as is the case of Gorafe, all the salmon and ochre tones of clay and iron. With hues that reflect all these nuances, “Gorafe” is one of the most chromatically rich shades in the entire Tierra collection.
