Ses Sucreres: a hotel that is home

This hotel in Menorca has transformed a local landmark into a unique little corner of the island

There are lovely hotels everywhere. We’ve participated in many projects that have proved it. But there is something about projects with personality that we find particularly appealing. Ses Sucreres, a small hotel in Menorca, contains a very interesting proposal, which we are delighted to be part of.

This small two-story walk-up hotel is many things at once: it’s cozy, but wide open. It’s innovative, but it feels like beign at home. It’s a place that protects the essence of the homemade, of the local, but welcomes tourists and visitors. We have contributed to the space with a glazed tiles squared mural in red tones that contributes to create a fascinating and captivating space.

Ses Sucreres: personality to the maximum, ostentation to the minimum

According to Ses Sucreres’ own manifesto, it is an unpretensious project. At the entrance, one reads: “Village hotel”. And although that is an objectively true statement, what it means (or that’s what we make of it) is that you are about to enter a space that takes care of its context, which in this case is the town of Ferreries.

And that can be felt in every detail. Expanded in 2023, Ses Sucreres is an excercise in authenticity. The tastes and sensibilities of those who inhabit it are manifested in every corner, including the spectacular wall that houses our glazed tiles in shades of red.

This is the wall that delimits the cafeteria area, adjacent to the common area of fireplace and sofas, bordering in turn with the library. The use of each space is subtle but clearly delimited by the furniture and decorative elements in the y plane, and by the continuous wall in the x plane. The wood, the white painted concrete, and the red tiled wall follow one after the other. The choice of this type of tiles and in this type of tonality is perfect to fulfill this task. Hats off to Calderón Folch studio, the Barcelona architecture firm that signed the project.

Bright minds think alike

We apologize for the lack of modesty, but Ses Sucreres (and its urbanite sibling, Hevresac, a “city hotel”) is a project with which we share more than a commitment to product quality.

It is an entrepreneurship with the Menorca Biosphere Reserve brand. It is a “distinctive of sustainability that values the products and services of the island that develop their activity following criteria of protection of the environment that surrounds them, the Menorcan identity and culture”.

This is a narrative we are happily familiar with. As we often say, our commitment to sustainability is at the core of our very essence, so working with projects like this one is especially satisfying for us. At Ses Sucreres they use sustainable energy systems and practice local and fair trade for their kitchen goods, prioritize sustainable materials and work with suppliers who share those same values. We are proud to be part of that list, and we welcome Ses Sucreres to ours.
