Are todobarro tiles suitable for fireplaces?
The terracotta pieces sold todobarro (antique fired clay, glazed terracotta tiles, high-temperature terracotta and zellige) are not suitable for use in ovens, grills or fireplaces, as they have not been designed for this purpose.
Direct contact between our bricks and tiles and open flames or fire must be avoided in order to preserve the integrity of the pieces and ensure their long-term survival. That said, we must also point out that all of our pieces are Class A1 according to the EN 13501-2 standard. The UNE-EN 13501-2 standard is a European classification that categorizes the reaction of constructive materials and elements to fire. It is mainly used as a safety measure to predict how each product may contribute to the start and spread of flames in the event of a fire, and the classification ranges from Class A1, which indicates non-combustible products that do not contribute to fire at any stage, to class F, which applies to products of unknown performace or highly combustible products.
