Clay floor for outdoors and swimming pools

Braun Fuentes studio has relied on todobarro for a very special project with one of our star formats: the rustic brick

That todobarro is part of projects full of heart. It is one of the greatest satisfactions we can aspire to. Due to the nature of the material we work with and its history, terracotta, we always enjoy recovering and reinventing tradition. This is exactly what they have managed to do with La Huerta from the architectural studio Braun Fuentes, which has relied on our neoartisanal floors to cover a large outdoor area surrounding a swimming pool with our Ladrillo rústico.

Embracing tradition in the 21st century

La Huerta was an old building that had been in disuse for more than two decades. Despite its shortcomings (mainly light and spaciousness) it maintained a proud demeanor that has been maintained over the years.

The owners today are an Australian family and the house belonged to the grandmother of one of them. Many memories, stories and emotions were linked to the place, so maintaining the soul of the place was a priority. They succeeded in doing so by giving rise to a contemporary house with a classic spirit, finding a meaningful geometry, flowing lines, light and elegance.

The installations are of the 21st century: home automation, efficient and sustainable energy sources and wastewater treatment for irrigation. Now La Huerta is a cheerful house where to generate new memories and keep the old ones alive. The materials used, in addition to our clay floor for the exterior and the pool, are elements that give personality and beauty to the place: chestnut wood, old mobila, hydraulic flooring from the early twentieth century in the interior, Valencian glazed ceramics from the eighteenth century and plaster finishes. The combination of all of them turns the house into a simple place but with a lot of charm and differentiation.

Clay floor for exterior use: our infallible Rustic Brick

For this project they selected the 25×12 Ladrillo rústico laid in a herringbone pattern with a combination of the reddish and salmon shades. The clients, in their eagerness to maintain the nature of the material and to nurture the soul of the place, chose not to give the floor any treatment. They decided not to protect the tiles, seeking a much more organic and classic look with the intention of letting nature take its course.

By not protecting the floor, the saltpeter and verdigris will appear progressively over time, which will undoubtedly give the space a unique character. This option does not interfere at all with the installation. We like to see that there are people who appreciate the beauty in the lack of perfection.
