Rural style at Las Brasas del Mentidero
A new collaboration with Madrid in Love based on a traditional rural style for a contemporary restaurant
The success of a restaurant naturally resides in the quality of the dishes it serves. But while gastronomy may be a central parameter, it is not the only one. Decor is also essential when it comes to capturing the attention of diners and making them feel comfortable in a welcoming atmosphere which simply irradiates the spirit of the kitchen and the philosophy of the business. This project used our rustic tiles for an outdoor restaurant, and we couldn’t be more in love with the result.
The prestigious studio Madrid in Love sets itself apart for the way it manages to make tangible the essence of every project they take on. This was also the case for the Madrid restaurant Las Brasas del Mentidero, where they once more made use of our artisanal terracotta pieces to create a rural yet highly contemporary style of interior design.
Classic traces of a country home
At their studio, led by Juan Luis Medina and Naroa Quirós, they took inspiration from classic Portuguese country estates for the interior design of Las Brasas del Mentidero, where traditional Portuguese fare, fusion cuisine and flame-grilled cooking characterize the dishes served up to diners in this surprising space.
The rural style which defines this restaurant stands out for its blending of classic, Romantic and rustic currents, where natural elements take center stage. Wood with an old patina, aged metal lamps, raffia, terracotta, wicker furniture and antique tables combine into a perfect setting for the dishes served.
Rustic tiles for an outdoor restaurant
The style of interior design employed by Madrid in Love at this restaurant transports us to a calm and comfortable country house where time appears to stand still. The interplay between decorative elements is particularly evident at the main bar, where curved lines preside over the space.
To create this effect, they used our rectangular pieces in our Conjunto Baraca, a selection of distressed tones in salmón (salmon), rojiza (rust red) and a light pizarra (slate), for the main bar and for some very elegant flower pots. The color variations presented by these pieces are more than apt for a space where fire is an essential and everyday feature, given that they bear testament to burns caused precisely by their own firing in a traditional Arabic oven.
Terracotta is a material which shines especially bright in a rural style such as the one seen in this restaurant. The material gives the environment the weight of tradition and handcraftsmanship, and it speaks to the importance of all things natural and organic.
