Espejo & Goyanes design a small kitchen with a terracotta floor

In elegant tones of aquamarine with rustic touches which bring an essence of chic, Espejo & Goyanes use terracotta flooring to breathe new life into a very special kitchen.

Cristina Espejo and Marta Goyanes have known each other since their college years, where they studied Interior Architecture together at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 2011, the two friends founded Espejo & Goyanes, a studio which has grown ceaselessly and made a name for itself in the sector solely on its own merits. They used our terracotta tiles to create a beautiful kitchen with terracotta floors for a charming little apartment in Madrid’s emblematic Barrio de las Letras quarter.

The style of Espejo & Goyanes

Above all else, interior design is primarily about creating atmospheres which are welcoming, stimulating and which support well-being. This is something which both Cristina and Marta are experts at. Both of their personalities are different, but they complement each other well when sharing ideas, and they both bring different visions to every project.

For this property, they opted for simple elements featuring elegant lines and a sophisticated nature. The kitchen in particular draws attention for its lattice ceiling and paneled doors with natural wood (a material which, together with the fired clay of our tiles, brings an organic touch to the space), its Macaúbas quartzite countertop, iron and glass cooker hood and its original plumbing details. And all of this is accompanied by decor reminiscent of that classic rustic style.

A perfect kitchen with terracotta floors in unique tonalities

For the floor, the interior decorators opted for our Malla combination, comprised of 40×20 cm rectangular tiles in salmón (salmon) with Antique texture and 10 cm glazed square tiles in a matte version of our spectacular tone of Zamarut green, which finds perfect balance together with the furnishings of the abode. A geometric combination both traditional and timeless.

Our terracotta tiles and glazed azulejos are crafted by hand at our factory and fired in a traditional Arabic oven powered by cuttings from the region of Axarquía. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we also use returnable wooden pallets for the delivery of our products.

This means we are doubly pleased to see our designs used in settings as interesting as what Espejo & Goyanes came up with here. Firstly, for the sense of satisfaction we get from seeing our floors paired with such varied styles and in a way that never fails to brings character; and secondly, we are pleased to see how studios increasingly opt for sustainable materials such as ours.
