White tiles and a terracotta floor for La Bientirada
White tiles and our new Vélez Collection at the emblematic Madrid beer house, La Bientirada
What sets the best beer houses apart from the rest, besides their good food and beers, is their ability to make us feel part of a unique and refined atmosphere. This is just what happens once you step through the wooden doors of La Bientirada, located on Santa Engracia in the north of Madrid. The architectural team at MRGO, the studio which undertook the renovation and interior design of the beer house, used our white tiles for this bar in a square format for the wall and our Vélez Collection to give an organic and unique touch to the space as a whole.
Reinventing the Mediterranean style: white tiles for bar
La Bientirada on Santa Engracia is located on one of the busiest corners of Madrid. It makes for the perfect location to enjoy a moment of leisure in the bustle of the city with countless options for its patrons to enjoy. An aperitif at the bar, an intimate meal around one of their tables inside or out on the terrace, a lively happy hour gathering or an intimate dinner among friends. And naturally, always in the company of some exquisite Mediterranean fare made from local ingredients of the finest quality.
The architects at MRGO knew just how to capture the essence of the beer house, crafting an elegant and modern atmosphere while taking care to make optimum use of its physical setting. The first thing that caught their eye on this project was the facade, which had not been fully exploited until now. By bringing the windows down to the ground, they were able to create a space which opens up onto the outside, almost contiguous with the two terraces in a corner formation, taking full advantage of the area’s natural light.
Inside, sunlight streams in and accentuates the neutral tones of the decor, contrasting them with bursts of orange and blue from bold fabric details and the verdant green of the space’s indoor plants. For the flooring and also for the bar—a cornerstone of any beer house—the architects at MRGO opted to use one of our products.
The elevated floor and staircase feature our Vélez-Ondas Collection, which is one of the most versatile options in our catalog. Designed by LEBLUME, this collection is comprised of terracotta pieces which explore the potential of curved lines and enable the creation of perfect tessellations in wide spaces, generating a somewhat off-beat rhythm in terracotta floors which nonetheless remains highly effective and bursting with personality. For the bar, on the other hand, they opted for one of our most popular formats: the Cuadrado 20 in blanco antiguo (antique white), which brings a freshness and a sense of tradition to the space.
MRGO—the art of blending disciplines
Behind the architectural studio MRGO are Álvaro Mesonero-Romanos and Álvaro G. Onieva. Between them, they share the sort of mutual understanding you only find in old childhood friends. The pair of them both took very similar career paths, and they wound up working together at the studio of Miguel Olazábal between 2015 and 2018. Such was the professional affinity between the two that, at the end of 2018, they decided to embark on their own projects together. This joining of forces and their shared background was a complete success and culminated in the founding of MRGO in January 2020.
Their methodology is based on involving all disciplines from the very genesis of an idea. They manage to integrate architecture into spaces where ordinarily only interior design and decor would be deployed. Refusing to be limited by physical boundaries, they set out to modify architectural boundaries from the very beginning of each project and leave no possibility unexplored. They exude passion and professionalism in every project they take on, which is why we are simply delighted that they have used our flooring and glazed azulejos to put their unique twist on La Bientirada.
